Stray FM Local Hero Awards 2018

Event took place 09/05/18

An incredibly inspiring young local lady, Annie Coyne, was honoured with the Bravery Award, sponsored by Kettlewell Fuels, at this year’s Stray FM Local Hero Awards 2018 held recently at Harrogate’s beautiful Rudding Park Hotel.

Hosted by Stray FM’s Nick Hancock and Will Smith, this annual event recognises people or groups in the area who have done something extraordinary - Annie Coyne has certainly done that.

This brave 18-year-old was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in 2016, which left her with awful side effects from the chemotherapy including a blood clot on her brain, leading to numerous seizures and strokes.

Yet despite battling this horrendous disease, during her treatment Annie set herself a goal – to raise a massive £10,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust before the end of her treatment.

Attending this extremely moving and truly heart warming event, Kettlewell Fuels’ Janet Kettlewell commented on this year’s deserved winner: “All I can say is Annie is a true hero. I cannot even begin to imagine what this young lady has had to experience over the past two years but her determination to make things better for others going through similar things is quite simply inspirational.”

Please do take the time to watch Annie’s video to find out more about her achievement and all-round amazing approach to life.

Also, may we urge you to boost Annie’s fundraising total by making a small donation to her JustGiving page.
