Harrogate Under 9s Win The Coad Cup 2023
An impressive 25 local U9s cricket teams entered the 14th year of the Kettlewell Fuels Nidderdale Junior Cricket League (KFNJCL) Coad Cup Final, with Harrogate taking the trophy once again. The trophy was presented by Yorkshire opening bowler Ben Coad.
Hosted at Studley Royal Cricket Club on Sunday, 18th June 2023, with the empty threat of rain causing tension, all the teams fought hard throughout the knockout competition.
Eight teams battled it out in the quarter-finals, with Harrogate and Bilton eventually going head-to-head in the final. With Harrogate winning the toss and Charlie Quick taking four wickets for just six runs when Bilton Bilton batted, it was an uphill battle for Bilton as they lost 12 wickets, costing 48 runs in the Pairs cricket.
Stuart Anderson, Nidderdale League Under 9 Secretary, spoke at the presentation with Yorkshire opening bowler Ben Coad presenting the medals. Also, taking the time to have photos with the junior players.
Sponsor of the Nidderdale Junior Cricket League, Kettlewell Fuels managing director Stuart Illingworth said: “It was yet another successful conclusion to the Under 9 Coad Cup for Harrogate. Harrogate has now won the trophy five times in the last six years – an impressive track record!
“It’s heartening to see junior cricket thriving in the region and I would like to take the opportunity to recognise the hard work of everyone involved in the organisation of the Nidderdale Junior Cricket League (KFNJCL) and The Coad Cup.
