Regular servicing (annually) and maintenance of your oil central heating tank is certainly advised – the cost of having to repair or replace a heating oil tank isn’t cheap so it’s worth investing in proper maintenance by an OFTEC registered oil heating engineer.

We would also recommend you check your central heating oil tank intermittently every 6 months and also after episodes of extreme weather.  Domestic heating oil tanks can deteriorate in quality over time, so it’s important to regularly check your oil tank for signs of wear and tear or damage that could lead to leaks or spills – some common things to look out for are:

• Dents and scratches on the surface of the heating oil tank
• Damp patches underneath the tank and/or any strong smell of home heating oil.
• Splits in plastic tanks or rust patches on metal tanks
• Damage to the grass around your heating oil tank
